CLUELESS, AS IF - THE KEY TO STYLING PRETEENS ON A BUDGET

Updated: Apr 8, 2019

I had the great pleasure of working with my first preteen client last month. Her mother alerted

me of her style, favorite color and of course clothing sizes.

Initially, we scheduled to meet at the mall one Saturday so my client could try on clothes. Plans

ended up changing the day of and I purchased the clothes based on the $250 budget provided.

After purchasing the clothes I delivered them to my client’s home.

I purchased 5 outfits all under my budget of $250 from Macy’s and JCPenny’s. These two stores

have a nice size juniors department and are both economical. I remember in middle school having the hardest time finding clothes that fit me and didn’t look so young. When looking for preteen

clothing, I would recommend these two stores.

Here are few of the favorite outfits I purchased for my client (photographed by Pamela Lyons @mspameladiane Instagram and @insightfulimages Facebook, who happens to be her cousin):

As I walked in Macy’s I knew I wanted to find plaid fitted pants and a hoodie crop top. I quickly

changed my mind after finding a jumper hidden in the back of the store. My client is tall and

small framed. I knew the jumper would look great on her.

I was so excited when I got to her home for my client to try on the jumper. It fit well and she

decided to pair it with a white cami and ballet flats.

Camo is in! No matter how you wear it -pants, dress, hat, top, or skirt. I found a camouflage shirt

tied in a top knot in JCPenny’s. When I saw the shirt I knew my client would be able to wear it

several ways with black jeans or denim shorts in the summer.

As mentioned, I wanted to find a bright colored hoodie my client could wear between seasons. I

found out after purchasing the hoodie my client didn’t care for stripes. At her home when trying

on the hoodie I showed her how to piece the article of clothing. She had a white leather jacket

and distressed jeans in her closet. After trying on the outfit my client ended up loving the look.

Book me for future graduation pictures or special occasions. I enjoyed styling clients in this age

group. This is such an impressionable age and it is great to help define their styles.
