THE ART OF SELECTING AN AREA RUG

The month before I closed on my home I was traveling nonstop for work. In fact, I wasn’t able to move into my new home until two weeks after my closing date due to work travel. I remember leaving work in the evenings and running to purchase furniture before packing for a flight. A month after moving into my new home it dawned on me that I had an empty canvas and I could be as creative as I wanted in decorating my place.

I was initially overwhelmed with the endless home décor possibilities and voiced my frustration to friends. They all said the same thing, “Jenell, you have an eye for fashion. You will figure things out”. Well they turned out to be correct. The first two months in my home I spent every weekend in Home Goods buying pillows and wall accents. I also get home décor inspirations from some of my favorite IG interior bloggers @aglassofbovino and @aa_interiorstylist.

Earlier this month I decided to tackle the project of purchasing an accent rug for my living room. My living room is 75% complete in terms of furnishing / décor. I felt that the rugs would help get my room to 100% completion. I started looking for rugs online to get a feel for the typical price and designs. The second step was to measure the width and length of the floor. I knew I wanted my area rug to sit in the middle of the living room floor, not necessarily wanting the ends of the rugs to touch both ends of the room.

While out shopping one Saturday I decided to stop in Pier 1 to check out area rugs. I headed to the back of the store and noticed that the store was having a good sale. I asked the store associate for the dimension of a few rugs I spotted. I saw one in particular that fit with my blue color scheme and size. I purchased the rug for a discounted price under $200 and was able to fit in my car.
